DESCRIPTION: APW - E. Howard & Co, Boston, Series III, N-S (just over 19S), 15J, heavy 18K gold original Tiffany & Co. HC, gold cuvette, white enamel SS dial, KWKS, balance over center wheel, gilt mvt, s#7264. Watch comes with a 14K gold 14-inch chain with attached key, and watch also comes with a leather pouch which contains a handwritten letter attributing original ownership of the watch to Henry D. Nicoll, a prominent physician and surgeon of New York City. Gross weight of assembled watch 90.3 dwt (140.6 g); gross weight of 14K chain without key 6.2 dwt (9.6). The Tiffany & Co. signed case of this example is quite rare among early Howard production and is the first we have handled.
CONDITION: Mvt: NR, ticks briefly with a twist but stopping after a few moments, overhaul needed, excellent-plus cosmetic mvt condition overall, few small spots to plate surfaces, stopworks with fine scratch striations presumably from sanding; excellent dial with only a small hl below seconds-register; excellent hands, minute with some oxide to its tip; case shows light wear, some fine scratches and profuse micro-fine scratches to exterior, cuvette with fine scratches from slips when winding, few very small pinpoint nicks; tight bow; good glass crystal. Chain in excellent cosmetic condition overall. Leather pouch showing medium wear.
